Farm Management

The Farm Management offerings are designed to educate participants on livestock production practices that connect soil, water, plants, and animals.

Scenes from our Pasture Walk with Greg Brann

Kentucky grazier Greg Brann led a pasture walk at The Berry Center Farm near Port Royal on May 4. Greg’s Big Spring Farm in Allen County, KY, is a model of multi-species grazing, soil health, and economic decision-making. His annual pasture walk has drawn hundreds of farmers and ranchers to his family’s southern Kentucky farm for nearly 30 years.

Greg has over 40 years of experience working directly with farmers as the state Grazing Land Soil Health Specialist and now as a consultant for farmers and other land managers to custom-tailor plans based on their goals. He has impacted over 200,000 acres of land. Thanks to a generous grant, Greg worked with The Berry Center to take stock of the pasture, livestock, and infrastructure improvements made on its 200-acre farm in Port Royal over the last two years.

Event participants learned about The Berry Center Farm’s education mission and its work for Henry County farmers through Our Home Place Meat. Then they walked through the pastures with Greg to look at grass and species composition, low-input grazing and feeding strategies, stocking rates, and basic infrastructure choices.
